Member Benefits
Weekly and Monthly Programming
Membership at GVA is a tremendous value! The annual membership fee is $60. Members can enjoy studio time to practice portraiture, still life, clothed and unclothed figure painting, and open hours to work on individual projects. Monthly programs include Critique (a time to share your work and receive valuable feedback), Program (interesting talks, films, and discussions), Mixed Media Exploration, and Clothed Model Sketch. Sessions featuring live models require a small charge to pay the models.
Membership also offers discounted classes and workshops, discounted supplies at Service Reproduction, the chance to paint outdoors with friends in the summer, social events and receptions. There are weekly email updates on scheduled studio sessions, classes, shows, and special events.
Online Presence & Social Media Platforms
GVA members enjoy access to a virtual members’ gallery on the GVA website, quarterly newsletters, a commission-free virtual marketplace for your work on Fine Art America, and rotating gallery shows to display your work to the public. GVA also maintains a private Facebook forum for members and an Instagram page.
Gallery & Studio
In our gallery and studio we host rotating gallery shows (both member and nonmember exhibits including thematic exhibits). Members are also able to borrow from GVA’s lending library
Exhibition Opportunities
The gallery at GVA offers members the opportunity to show and sell work throughout the year. Gallery themes change monthly. Some shows are for members only but others include nonmembers or highlight the artistic contributions of some of our regional art groups like the Plein Air Artists of West Michigan. Our gallery commissions are exceptionally favorable to artists in that we only ask a 15% commission on works sold from our gallery. We want to make showing and selling at GVA affordable for all!
Additionally, GVA members are encouraged to show their work in several regional venues including coffee shops, libraries and churches. Members can also participate in the annual Pop-up Bazaar and Art Market at Fulton Street Farmers Market.
Membership Cost
- Individual Membership: $60.00 (per year from September 1st through August 31st)
- Student Membership: $30.00
- Family Membership: One full fee + 50% discount for each adult (18+). List family names when you apply.
